unit 3 evaluation

Travis kirks

The strengths I had when I was creating a magazine are, I enjoy a good challenge and I am good at with using digital camera to create a good digital media project. I am alright at organising my team member by giving them an idea and letting them free wheel into what ever design they want to use and I have a good ability to take orders of others.   I am responsible, confident and honest about things, i am also good at taking photos for my car magazine, i also good at using other digital media windows such as photoshop. the photoshop contain doing things like using different layers and applying text. My weaknesses are that i am not good at taking criticism, i dived straight in without doing much research but if i had researched then i may have got a better grade.

I started by finding information about the car magazine genre for instance i found how the photos were taken and how they were placed on the magazine, i then planned my own car magazine double spread, i came up with a step by step double spread that would contain information and pictures, before i took my photos i designed the layout on photoshop.  So i would have to mess around trying to make the page look smart, after i decided where i was going to take my photos i decided the best place was the yard and the race track where the car was in action. Then once the photos were taken i placed them on photoshop  and i first worte about them and plaved a grid with equal spacing for my photos and the text, i then placed my photos then i choose the font i wanted. i also found info out of a magazine and also my own knowledge i then played round with the width of the red line so it looked right on the page this allow my magazine to look simialar to guys.

Techniques i used were stroke over the writing, i used this because it stands out on my magazine and made it look appropiate for the style of magazine. i put lines on the top and bottom to make the layout look like a double page spread, other tecniques is the way i took photos at different angles like long shot close. overall i am pleased with how my work turned out my double page works well in contrast of guys.

Unit 3 Evaluation by guy rutter

Guy Rutter Unit 3 Evaluation
My strengths in making my magazine work, I enjoy a challenge because I like trying out thing I haven’t used before and I am good with digital media for example when I was putting pictures in photoshop I knew what to do. I am good at the organization of group members because I told Travis what we need for the magazine like page design and I have good ability to take orders because I listen to Travis when he suggested a page layout. I am honest , responsible, self-confident and polite to people and I took good photos for a car genre magazine and designing my own layout eventually. I am good at managing my time.Examples of this include making sure the spreads are work complete on time. The weaknesses are I am not ability to diffuse tension in-group. I found it difficult getting some good creative ideas and also at organizing the resources together. One way of creating ideas that I found helpful was looking a broad range of other peoples work for example magazines.
I started researching the layout of car magazine double page spreads on the Internet and looking what images they used and the angle they used and the style of shots they used. I also looked at  what fonts they used and make sure they were well present . I started planning a layout of my magazine of a double spread of a car on a A4 paper. This helped me because I knew then how many images I needed and what of. I made sure mum’s car was clean and shiny and made sure there wasn’t any rubbish in the car for example crisp wrappers.I made sure the lighting was as good as possible to make the photos more

professional.I started designing my magazine on Photoshop and first I put the photos in place and then got the font I needed on dafont and got the information on Internet and out of a magazine and type about the car and get the colour was suited for a dark background.
The techniques I used are stroke over writing I used this because it stand out and make my magazine look professional and another techniques I put the lines up the top and bottom to make my magazine look professional and another techniques to it my magazine more depth I added a background image to make my magazine more professional.I used columns for my text because It easy to read and convention of form which means all magazine are set out this way.

The legal and ethical issues are that by using my own images and text copyright is not an issue where as if I was to use images off the internet then I would had to seek the permission of the owner and probably have to pay them as well. The other problem I would've had if I had used professional images, my own images would have taken a long time to match the professional ones. This then would have affected the amount of time I had to do the production.

Legal and Ethical issues

Travis and Guy used different font which we downloaded of Dafont, but because we used it for work in school we didn't have to ask but in the real world we would have had to write a letter to the owner asking to use the font type.
Travis used his own photos meaning he didn't have to ask to use photos but Guy used a photo but if the was in the real world not school he would of have to of ask the copyright person.
